Bye bye Angola bogs, doing everything we can to comply with the council at huge expense to us, but we will keep marching on and in some shape or form be back for you soon Shaftesbury, watch this space 💪🙌🙌

Having a few enquiries whether Angola 76 will be opening on the 12th April, unfortunately and sadly we have no immediate plans to reopen as we are still facing huge opposition from North Dorset planning, (although full support from Shaftesbury council ❤️)and it will not open until it is resolved in some way. We are fighting hard behind the scenes to find a way back as something for the town, and will let you know as soon as we have the go ahead. Thank you all for your love and continued ... See more

Absolutely blown away by all the 84 positive comments of support on the North Dorset planning site, if you have not had your say please do now, if we can get to 100 before it closes end of March then that will be amazing. If we make it through this we will work so hard to give you the best hospitality this town can offer, thank you lovely people 🙏 🤞🙌🙌🙌

This Is Alfred - News From Shaftesbury

Massive thank you to Shaftesbury town council for a 100 % unanimous vote of support for our final planning application, Dorset Council will make the final decision so we still need your support but very proud of our town for backing local family business. If successful we will be coming back slightly reinvented but still a very cool venue serving great food, cocktails and world class beers ensuring you have a variety of choice in this town and a great place to socialise.

This Is Alfred - News From Shaftesbury

So Dorset council is supporting some businesses then telling us at Angola 76 to take down our beautiful temporary canopy in our yard that was put up to protect customers sitting outside for Covid restrictions. Dorset Council is making us remove our disabled toilet and canopy but allows this, saying it’s supporting the recovery of hospitality in the town but trying to close us down, it’s criminal

Dorset Council has followed Wiltshire’s lead in waiving charges for ‘pavement’ licences. Shaftesbury Town councillor Piers Brown says it will help the recovery of our town’s hospitality businesses. Cllr Derek Beer adds that outdoor café culture proved popular in Shaftesbury last summer. He believes it will help boost residents’ morale over the months ahead.

The Alfred Daily - 23rd February

It is no real news to the wonderful people of Shaftesbury that Angola 76 has had years of battles with the council to gain certain permissions and dealt with continual complaints from one particular source. In April during the first lockdown we were slapped with an Enforcement notice meaning to close completely or appeal. We appealed with funds we did not have, funds we borrowed and this month the appeal was refused. It has been heartbreaking as we already have all the stress of Covid but now ... See more
